Hi, yes, hello. So, one of the most anticipated shows of the summer is probably And Just Like That… Season 2. ‘Cause, let’s be honest, we all could not look away from the chaos and drama that unfolded in Season 1.
Set 11 years after the second Sex and the City film, the new revival series found Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) still living it up in NYC, still being best friends, and still getting into some of the most wild situations that we all can’t help but love.
While the series was met with mixed reviews, it was simply must-watch TV, and it gave us some of the most jaw-dropping plot twists and moments. However, while it’s great to see Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte again, it was hard not to notice the big hole left by Kim Cattrall’s absence as THE ICONIC Samantha Jones.
Kim’s absence from the revival series came after years of reported tension between Kim and the rest of the cast. Kim has described her former costars as “toxic,” and alleged off-screen tension surrounding a third Sex and the City movie, which Kim turned down in 2017, made everyone stop and look at what was really happening behind the scenes.
Kim and, namely, SJP have gone back and forth for years, with Kim saying that she and the other women were “never friends, just colleagues,” while SJP replied, “I found it very upsetting. That’s not the way I recall our experience.” Everything was very public, very messy, and ultimately led to Kim not being asked to return for the new series.
When asked about why she sat out And Just Like That…, Kim told Variety, “I was never asked to be part of the reboot. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media.”
Meanwhile, SJP confirmed Kim was not asked back, noting, “She made it clear that that wasn’t something she wanted to pursue, and it no longer felt comfortable for us, and so it didn’t occur to us.”
That’s all to say, the first season of the Sex and the City revival came and went, with Samantha’s absence, which was explained when Carrie talked about Samantha moving to London and how the duo had a falling out.
Then, in the And Just Like That… Season 1 finale, while in Paris, Carrie decided to text Samantha, who actually responded and agreed to meet with her.
Anyway, all of that info takes us to today when Variety reported that Kim will apparently reprise her role as Samantha in a cameo during the And Just Like That… Season 2 finale.
According to Variety, Kim will only “appear in one scene,” with a source telling the outlet that she shot her dialogue in March in NYC, “without seeing or speaking with stars of the series, including Sarah Jessica Parker.”
Apparently, Samantha and Carrie will have a phone conversation.
Also, acclaimed Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field, who does not work on And Just Like That…, styled Samantha for the scene.
Patricia and Kim both opted out of And Just Like That…, but have remained good friends. In fact, they worked together recently on Kim’s upcoming Netflix series Glamorous.
Anyway, that’s all the info we have right now, but we’ll be sure to update if anything comes out about Kim’s reported return as Samantha to the Sex and the City universe.
And Just Like That… Season 2 premieres on June 22 on Max.
