We said it three times, and now we have received. Fans of the original Beetlejuice film have even more to look forward to now that Michael Keaton, who played the infamous “bio-exorcist” in the first film, has revealed a few delightful details for the upcoming sequel, which, I, personally, am ecstatic about.
Michael, who will reprise his role as the titular Beetlejuice, revealed in an interview with Empire, “We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie.”
“[Burton] and I were talking about it years and years ago, never telling anybody. I said, ‘If it happens, first of all, we’ve both said we’re doing it many times. We both agreed, if it happens, it has to be done as close to the way we made it the first time,'” said Michael.
Michael also shared that, production-wise, there will be “handmade stuff like people creating things with their hands and building something.”
In addition, there will be “improvising” and “riffing,” much like the original.
“Beetlejuice is the most fucking fun you can have working. It’s so fun, it’s so great,” Michael said. “It’s the most fun I’ve had working on a movie in I can’t tell you how long.”
The original 1988 film costarred Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, and Jeffrey Jones.
For the sequel, Winona and Catherine will reprise their roles while Jenna Ortega joins the cast as Winona’s daughter. Rounding out the cast, Willem Defoe, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci have also signed up for this cheeky, horror classic.
The sequel is set to release on September 6, 2024.
