Shakira says that she thought she would not be able to survive after her ex Gerard Pique cheated on her while her father, William Mebarak Chadid, was admitted to the ICU.

The Colombian singer admitted she was ‘extremely heartbroken’ after her break with the Spanish footballer.

“The man I have loved the most in my life, my father, was leaving me when I needed him the most,” Shakira told People en Español. “I couldn’t talk to him, or go to my best friend for the advice I needed so much.”

The former couple announced their separation in June last year after a relationship of eleven years and two children later.

The announcement came on June 4, 2022, when Shakira’s publicist made a statement on her behalf.

“We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”

The announcement was made when rumors about the 35-year-old footballer were circulating that he was cheating on the Queen of Latin music.

The Hips Don’t Lie singer allegedly found out that Pique was cheating on her when she returned home to an eaten jar of strawberry jam.

In January 2023, the Spanish footballer went Instagram official with her new girlfriend Clara Chia, and posted a cozy selfie with her.

“He went to Barcelona to console me after I was consumed with sadness because of my separation,” Shakira said about her father.

“While he was at Milan’s first communion, he was gravely injured in an accident. Everything happened at once. My home was falling apart. I was finding out through the press that I had been betrayed while my dad was in the ICU.”

The Whenever Wherever singer further said that her father is a ‘wonderful man and an endearing character’ who always surprises her with his strength.

“He has overcome COVID once, two accidents, one pneumonia and five surgeries— all of this at 91 years of age, in less than six months. My dad is the biggest example of resilience, and my mother has been by his side day and night,” she continued.

“They have both been a reflection of that dream that didn’t come true for me. But I hope they are role models for my kids of love, of patience in relationships, of absolute devotion and zest for life.”

Last week the pop icon, 45, took to her Instagram to share a clip of her upcoming new track, with fans noticing a savage reference to her cheating ex, Pique.

In the six-second preview clip of her new track, Shakira can be heard singing, “You are always busy with so much business. It would be nice, my love, a little leisure.”

“Relax here on the sofa and give me your attention. The phone rings, use your hand with me I know you’re hot, but I’m much hotter.”

The song will be officially released on June 29.
